Boys Basketball: Wayne Hills 67, West Milford 59

Joe Brandl scored 10 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead Wayne Hills in Wayne. Wayne Hills outscored West Milford, 23-9, in the fourth quarter. Chris Fonti had 15 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks for Wayne Hills (7-8). Matt Heskins contributed 10 points. Tom Bailey led West Milford with 18 points, all on 3-pointers.

Boys Basketball: DePaul 67, Fair Lawn 45

Mike Minarik scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead DePaul (12-2) in Wayne. Keith Ford had 13 points and Matt Miller added 11 for DePaul. Ryan Sweeney led Fair Lawn with 10 points.

Boys Basketball: Wayne Valley 70, Lakeland 46

Andrew Herasimtschuk poured in 19 points to pace Wayne Valley (10-5). Jason Rosenberg and Mark Tucker added 11 and 10 points respectively. Nick Siljee collected a team high 12 rebounds. Rosenberg dished out 11 assists. Tom Larranaga had 9 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds.

Davon Jacobs and Matt Miller led DePaul (11-2) with 16 points apiece. Wally Sajimi recorded 10 points. Brett Ashley led West Milford (9-5) with 16 points. Conor Healy was next with 11 points.

Jason Rosenberg scored seven points to lead a 13-point run at the end of the first quarter when Wayne Valley raced to a 21-7 lead in Paramus. Senior forward Nick Siljee collected 13 points and five rebounds and Rosenberg finished with nine points and 10 assists for Wayne Valley (9-5). Andrew Herasimtschuk had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Mark Tucker had 10 points and a team high 8 rebounds. . Eli Emmanuel had 11 points for Paramus.

Boys Basketball: St. Joseph's Montvale 55, Wayne Hills 47

Chris Fonti, a 6-7 senior center, topped Wayne Hills (7-7) with 16 points and Joe Brandl had 11 and Matt Heskins had 10. Tony Efese paced all scorers with 19 points and Kai Dominguez had 15 for St. Joseph

Davon Jacobs and Matt Miller each scored 14 points to lead DePaul (10-2). DePaul was trailing 25-24 at halftime, but went on to outscore Wayne Hills, 17-5, in the third quarter. Wally Sajimi added 11 points for DePaul, which has won six of its last seven games. Sam Pressler had 13 points, including three 3-pointers and Chris Fonti added 11 to pace Wayne Hills (6-7). Joe Brandl contributed 9 points.

Boys Basketball: St. Joseph's-Montvale 48, Wayne Valley 47

Nick Gardner scored off an offensive rebound on a missed jumper by Kai Dominguez at the buzzer to lift St. Joseph of Montvale in Wayne. Gardner scored all six of his points in the fourth quarter. St. Joseph prevented Wayne Valley from inbounding the ball on three separate occasions with just 2.2 seconds remaining to set up Gardner's game-winner. Dominguez led St. Joseph with 17 points. Nick Siljee scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers and 15 points in the fourth quarter, to pace Wayne Valley (8-5). Jason Rosenberg had 10 assists and 8 points. Tom Larranaga also scored 8 points. Keith Greve had a team high 8 boards. Andrew Herasimtschuk collected had 7 rebounds.

Boys Basketball: Passaic Valley 60, DePaul 58

Junior forward Mike Governali of Passaic Valley hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left to send the game into overtime. He then scored five points in the 6-4 extra period to give his team the victory in Little Falls. With seven seconds left in overtime, Anthony DiSanti intercepted the inbound pass to seal the triumph for Passaic Valley. Governali connected on six 3-pointers and ended with 26 points and Dave Clough scored 12. Matt Miller had 19 points for DePaul. Davon Jacobs had 12 for DePaul. Mike Minarik and Keith Ford contributed 8 points apiece. Both teams are 9-2.

Boys Basketball: Wayne Hills 62, Lakeland 28

Chris Fonti, a 6-7, 305-pound senior center who will be playing football for Rutgers, set a single game individual record for blocks with 11 and added 10 points and 14 rebounds for Wayne Hills. It was Fonti's first triple-double showing. Senior forward Matt DeBlock rejected seven shots and Wayne Hills set a school record for blocks with 24. Guard Joe Brandl scored a game-high 14 points, including four 3-pointers, for Wayne Hills (6-6).

Junior guard Tom Larranaga connected for six 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 26 points. Nick Siljee contributed 18 points and senior point guard Jason Rosenberg had a career-high 16 assists for Wayne Valley (8-4). Chris Homsi had 10 points. Keith Greve had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Siljee had 5 boards. Ryan Sweeney knocked down 22 points for Fair Lawn.

Keith Greve scored 21 points and ripped down 10 rebounds for Valley (7-4). Nick Siljee added 16 points and 6 boards. Jason Rosenberg had 11 points and 12 assists. Anthony Verrili had 10 points and 4 rebounds. John Larranaga chipped in with 8 points. Justin D'Apolito had 6 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Chris Homsi had 6 points and 3 rebounds.

Matt Miller tallied 16 points to lead DePaul (9-1). Davon Jacobs (12 points), Mass Aronson (11 points) and Chris Moore (10 points) also hit for double digits. Michael Minarik had 8 points, while Wally Sajimi and Joshua Marquez hit for 7 points each.

Dave Clough scored a game-high 21 points, including nine in the second quarter, to lift Passaic Valley in Wayne. Mike Governali had 13 points and Nick DiCristina added 11 points for Passaic Valley, which has won seven straight. Chris Fonti scored 17 points and Joe Brandl added 16 to pace Wayne Hills.

Football: DePaul Wants Out Of Division

Awaiting Decision
Officials from DePaul traveled to the NJSIAA offices Wednesday to tell the association that the school does not belong in an all-non-public division in the new Big North Conference.
And officials from Paramus Catholic walked in right behind them to ask, "What about us?"
The association’s League and Conference Committee heard arguments from both schools. DePaul said it doesn’t belong in a division with the likes of Don Bosco and Bergen Catholic because of its small size and location in Passaic County. Paramus Catholic said any relief granted to the Spartans should be extended to it as well. Read More

Protest Affiliation
Officials at DePaul and Paramus Catholic are expected to appear before the NJSIAA leagues and conferences committee today to appeal their placement in an all non-public division of the new Big North Conference. Athletic director Joe Lennon of DePaul did not want to comment before the hearing, but he has expressed displeasure in the past about being placed in a division entirely made up of larger Bergen County non-public schools. Sam Pressler struck for 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and grabbed six rebounds. Chris Fonti added eight points, 12 boards and seven blocks for Wayne Hills in Wayne. Joe Brandl also had 14 points for Wayne Hills (5-5). Clifton's Mahdi Masri scored 12 points.

Tom Larranaga scored 11 of his career-high 22 points in a 21-7 first quarter for Wayne Valley (6-3) in Wayne. Senior forward Nick Siljee added 19 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Rosenberg, a senior guard, contributed 17 points and 12 assists for Wayne Valley. Justin D'Apolito and Keith Greve added 7 and 6 points respectively. Greve and Andrew Herasimtschuk collected six board apiece.

“Zone defenses or sagging defenses obviously have to respect Rosenberg’s ability to fly down the middle," Valley coach Joe Leicht said. "That opens up things for our guys outside. Those guys have to make those shots. Tommy did more than that. He did a heck of a job to help us get going and it picked up our energy. He’s a long-ranger shooter and he is hard for other teams to matchup up with."

“We’ve got the best point guard (Rosenberg) in New Jersey,” Larranaga said. “No one can stop him and we know it. All we’ve got to do is step up and hit the shot when he gets us the ball. If we can cash in, we’ll win."

Boys Basketball: DePaul 65, Bergen Tech 52

Davon Jacobs dropped in eight of his game-high 19 points in the first period when DePaul (7-1)raced to a 16-8 lead in Hackensack. Wally Sajimi scored 18 points and Matt Miller had 13 for DePaul. David Landzberg topped Bergen Tech with 16 points.

Wally Sajimi scored on a layup with 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give host DePaul (7-1) the victory at DePaul. Matt Miller came through with 20 points and Davon Jacobs had 12 for DePaul. Jason Rosenberg, a senior point guard, had 19 points for Wayne Valley (5-3). Nick Siljee and Anthony Verrili had 16 and 12 points respectively. Rosenberg finished with 9 assists. Siljee and Andrew Herasimtschuk had 4 boards apiece.

Girls Basketball: DePaul 59, Wayne Valley 48

Brianah Ramos scored 19 points and Alisha Cornett followed with 13 for DePaul (4-2) at Wayne Valley. Rachel Martin chipped in with 11 points. Lauren Callaghan scored 16 points for Wayne Valley (6-3). Sami Markowski and Dominique Ocello added 12 and 11 points respectively.

Matt Heskins had 15 points and Chris Fonti added 12, but Hills (2-5) still lost. Joe Brandl and Sam Pressler chipped in with 10 and 8 points respectively.
