Football: Wayne Hills 17, Northern Highlands 14

Hills trailed 14-3 in the second quarter, but came roaring back to win the first game in the Wayne Demikoff era. Senior quarterback Justin DeGroat's 10 yard touchdown pass to sophomore Joey Kenny with 6 minutes left in the game gave Wayne Hills the lead for good. Earlier in the game, DeGroat threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Santa. DeGroat also ran for 125 yards. Junior Justin Hogan ran for 115 yards. Erik Martinez nailed a 23-yard field goal for Wayne. Martinez also had a game-saving play on a punt on the last play of the third quarter. The ball was snapped over his head, but he chased it down, eluded two defenders and got the punt off.

Bobby Brown, who gained 1,406 yards for Northern Highlands last year, sprained his knee in the first quarter and did not return. Rob Hinchen led NH with 61 rushing yards.

"They gave us a lot of problems with their triple option attack and, at times, we showed our inexperience (two sophomore and six juniors started)," said Demikoff. "But we found a way to pull through."
