Jake Rudd is a 13-year-old lacrosse player in Wayne with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing's sarcoma.

Matthew Polifonte is a 10-year-old who was injured in a car crash on his way to a lacrosse tournament in late March. Proceeds from Wayne Lacrosse Day were used to raise money for both families. Rudd was a honorary captain in the Valley-Hills boys game. Polifante could not attend as he is still recovering from his injuries. Several members of his family attended. At a halftime ceremoney, everyone held up three fingers and five fingers to represent Polifante's #35 jersey.
