Football: Wayne Hills 31, Ramapo 24

Wayne Hills (8-0) trailed Ramapo (5-3) at halftime, 21-10. Evidently, it was just a bump in the road. Hills thorougly outplayed Ramapo in the second half to record an impressive come from behind win. Hills gained just 31 rushing yards in the first half, with Rampo's Matt Ambrose recording five talkes for a loss. Hills exploded for 150 rushing yards in the second half. Ramapo's Ryan Dougherty threw five completions to Doug Norkett for 111 yards in the first half. The tandem was almost entirely shut down in the second half as they combined for one short completion.

Ramapo jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Dougherty found Norkett for a 55 yard touchdown. Hills tied it on a Dom Santoro 21 yard run. Ramapo added to the lead in the second quarter on a 2-yard touchdown push by Zach Boucher and a 14 yard Dougherty to Norkett touchdown throw. The third touchdown was set up when Pat O'Hagen forced Kevin Olsen fumble with a jarring sack. Hills got a 30 yard field goal from Erik Martinez on the last play of the first half.

"The field goal was big," said Hills coach Chris Olsen. "I told them at halftime if we could score on the first series of the second half we would be in good shape."

That's exactly what happened. The score came on a 37-yard screen from Olsen to Andrew Monoghan. Wayne's next two scores came on 38 and 35 yard runs by Christian Rodriguez.

Joe Lane spearheaded the defensive charge with five tackles in the second half, four of which were for a loss. Garrett Rubin had six tackles in the second half.

"We had to pick it up in the second half," Lane said. "We just dug down deep. I knew we could win this game."
