Sophomore Anthony Landberg scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to lead Wayne Valley to a 14-7 victory over Passaic Tech. Landberg set the stage for the score with a 59 yard rush two plays earlier. Leading rusher Alex Trani had a key block on the long run.
"Thank God for this kid (Landberg)," said Trani, who ran for 104 yards. "He's like a little brother that has my back. When I'm tired, he comes in and runs hard. This kid's just a sophomore. He's got two more years left. He has a great future."
Tech went up 7-0 in the second quarter when Jarrad Sykes returned an interception 91 yards for a score. Valley began its comeback when junior Gary Choka picked off a PCT pass in the end zone. Valley drove the field, with quarterback Mike Eckrote completing passed to junior Andrew Monteyne (29 yards) and Trani (16 yards). The drive was capped off when Patrick Benson scored on a five yard run.
"This is a big win for us," Trani said. "We've got Wayne Hills coming up (Friday). We're 2-0 now. We have some momentum."
