Wayne Today's Story On DePaul's Baseball Passaic County Championship

For most of the 2011 high school baseball season, the majority of the local attention went to Wayne Valley (16-9) and Wayne Hills (18-9). There was a good reason. Both were steamrolling to arguably their best ever seasons. DePaul, this season, didn't seem to compare to its other crosstown rivals. For most of the season, the Wayne-based parochial school wallowed below the .500 mark. As the season wore on, though, the Spartans steadily righted the ship and is currently enjoying an eight-game win streak.

DePaul (14-8) punctuated its bounce-back season by claiming its third ever Passaic County championship (1973, 2001, 2010) this past Monday. Fittingly, the championship came at the expense of crosstown Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley.First, DePaul (No. 11) upset Wayne Hills (No. 2) in the semifinals, 8-6 last Saturday morning.
