Boys Basketball: Passaic County Tournament Quarterfinals: Kennedy 47, DePaul 42

With 6-4 senior center Kaheem Davis showing the way down the stretch with four points, Paterson Kennedy scored the last seven points of the game with 52 seconds remaining as Kennedy pulled out the victory in the quarterfinals of the Passaic County Tournament at Paterson Kennedy. Kennedy, the fourth seed, moves on to play Wayne Valley, a 45-34 winner over Passaic Tech, in the semis at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Paterson Kennedy.

Two free throws by Davis, who scored eight points in Kennedy's 14-8 fourth period, tied it at 40-40 with 1:33 left, but Na'fee Lighty, with an assist from Josh Marquez, put fifth-seeded DePaul in the lead, 42-40 with 1:13 remaining. However, that was the extent of DePaul's scoring. Davis followed with an inside shot for Kennedy, Jhamir White stole the ball, was fouled and converted two free throws and Dawan Lighty had one foul shot. DePaul missed a free throw and Davis got the rebound, was fouled, and ended the game with two shots from the line.

Davis finished with 13 points and nine rebounds and Jamarr Ellerbee was also a hero for Kennedy with four 3-pointers and 13 points. Davon Jacobs was strong inside for DePaul with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Maquez and Mas Aronson had 10 and 9 points respectively.
