Section I, Group III Boys Basketball Quarterfinals: Passaic Valley 68, Wayne Valley 60

Senior point guard Dom Coiro threw in 17 points, Mike Governali scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers, and Anthony DiSanti collected nine points, 18 rebounds and four assists for Passaic Valley in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 in Little Falls.
Jason Rosenberg, a senior point guard, paced Wayne Valley with 18 points, enabling him to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark in his final game in Valley blue. Rosenberg also had 9 assists. Senior forward Nick Siljee scored 14 and collected 7 rebounds for Wayne Valley. Sophomore Chris Homsi added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Andrew Herasimtschuk collected 6 boards.
The Indians trailed by double digits for most of the game. They could not overcome 6-for-27 shooting in the first half.
“We just didn’t make shots,” Wayne Valley coach Joe Leicht said. “Sometimes you make them and sometimes you don’t.”
Wayne did make a run in the second half, pulling within 61-56 with just under a minute remaining. Siljee’s three point attempt with 33 seconds could have pulled WV within two, but the ball rimmed out. Some felt that Siljee had been fouled taking the shot, but nothing was called.
“It’s tough when you get up big,” Passaic Valley head coach Rob Carcich said. “I know we looked forward to Friday (the semifinals). We thought the game was over. I guess we didn’t know who we were playing. You have to give Wayne Valley credit.”
“We thought this game would be closer than it was,” said Governali. “We were hot in the beginning. We knew we couldn’t keep it up, but it was good enough to keep us ahead.”
Passaic Valley advances to play Old Tappan tomorrow in Old Tappan.
