The History: In North Jersey, nothing has been more certain over the years than the Big Game — Wayne Hills vs. Ramapo. The two schools met annually on the gridiron from 1972 to 2008, each time, for the most part, producing a thriller.
To the dismay of many area fans, the rivalry appeared to suffer a quick demise when the NJSIAA announced its conference realignment plan last spring. The schools were placed into different divisions within the same conference and therefore were not scheduled to play each other during the regular season.
Fortunately for area fans, the game will be played this year after all. Both title contenders have forged their way into Saturday’s Section I, Group III championship game (Giants Stadium, 4 p.m.). It will be the 8th ever playoff game and 45th ever meeting between the two schools.
