The Little League World Series, after all, is a global baseball tournament for children aged 11 and 12 years old. Named for the World Series in Major League baseball, it was first played in 1947 and culminates every August in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Little League Baseball charters more than 7,000 leagues. Nearly 6,000 of them are in the United States. There are 2.5 million Little League players worldwide. The global field is divided into 16 geographic regions (8 national and 8 international).
