Mike Coss' tie-breaking three-run home run in the top of the sixth
inning was the difference as Pompton Lakes won its first Passaic County
Tournament title since 1996, defeating Lakeland, 8-6, at Passaic Tech in
Wayne.
Coss (6-3) was named the tournament MVP as he struck out 10, allowing three runs, six hits and a walk in a complete game.
Sean Lindberg went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Jon Steele was 3-for-4
with two runs and an RBI for third-seeded Pompton Lakes, which scored
four times in the top of the of the fourth to tie the game 5-5. Jimmy
Huber was 2-for-4 with a run and Ryan Kazanowski went 1-for-4 with a run
and an RBI.
Jesse Bruno and Joe Gilligan each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for
top-seeded Lakeland, which took a 5-1 lead after scoring four runs in
the third. Nick Unger was 1-for-3 with two runs.
WayneSports.com was established in 2003. It provides local sports to schools in Wayne and in the surrounding communities.
