Freshmen Joshua Marquez led DePaul (2-0) with 14 points. Michael Minarick and Matthew Miller had 8 and 8 points respectively. The Spartans trailed 9-0 after failing to score on their first 10 possessions. Marquez, who came off the bench, helped lead them back.
"I heard that last year we just got Jason the ball and he just scored whenever we needed help," Marquez said. "We're deeper this year. More people can score. That's while will be a better team."
"He's an outstanding player," DePaul coach Bart Fazio said. "Sometimes he makes freshman mistakes, but you you tonight how he came off the bench and made some big points."
The game marked Fazio's 400th win in 27 years of coaching. He coached at Wallington and Passaic before taking over at DePaul 19 years ago.
"The only thing that proves is that I have had great players," the modest coach said. "You cannot win without great players."
