Wayne Hills (9-1) demolished its former NBIL rival to advance to the semifinals. It was the 12th straight win for Hills against Old Tappan since 2000. They will host the winner of today's Lakeland at Sparta game next week in the semifinals.
Hills first struck when quarterback Mike Quinn found Mike Driesse behind the secondary on a seam route for a 52-yard touchdown. The Knights tied it when Chris Martinez ran it in from the 1 and Nick Errico hit the point after. That would be all Old Tappan would muster. The Patriots held the Knights to 49 second-half yards and 153 total for the game, only 66 after the score.
Brian Dowling scored the next four touchdowns for Hills. He scored on two runs (3 & 50), a pass from Quinn (49 yards) and an interception return (47 yards). Kicker Tim Divers had two field goals of 21 and 40 yards. On defense, tackle Ryan Salerno and linebacker Nick Masi each had eight tackles and a sack for Wayne Hills.
