In order to take the next step in cross-country, Salim Corbin had to sacrifice one of his favorite times to race – the summer. Corbin, who first made a splash with success in age-group track and field while in middle school, gave up his first love, summer track, last summer to prepare for his senior cross-country season at Eastside.
Saturday, as he has all year, Corbin proved his decision was a wise one. Corbin won the North 1, Group 3 title, by more than 200 meters to become Eastside’s first sectional champion. He also took down the school record at Garret Mountain that had stood for 29 years with a 16:16 clocking to earn a spot in next week’s State Group championships at Holmdel County Park.
Corbin was by joined by Group 2 individual winner Nick Ward of Indian Hills and Group 3 team winner Wayne Valley as North Jersey champions. In all, nine North Jersey boys team and nine other individuals advanced to next week’s meet. Read More
