Top-seeded Wayne Hills (6-2-1) topped Lakeland, 3-1 in a quarterfinal round game of the Passaic County Girl’s Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The victory advanced the Patriots to Saturday’s semifinals where they will try to avenge one of their two losses this season, when they face DePaul at 4 p.m. Their only other loss came at Ridgewood.
Defending champion Lakeland, seeded eighth, took the early lead when Lindsey Capozzi converted a corner kick in the 13th minute of the first half. Hills tied it in the 38th minute when Nikolette Driesse took a setup from Carli Mink and got off a shot from just outside the 18-yard mark that flew over the head off Lancers’ goalkeeper Melanie Miller before hitting off the bottom of the post and dropping into the net.
