Football: Playoff Berth Likely On The Line For Wayne Valley Friday Night

Demarest at Wayne Valley, 7 p.m.

Wayne Valley hosts Demarest (6-1), one of the most dominant teams in the state, Friday night (7 p.m.). If Valley loses, they are in all likelihood eliminated from playoff contention. If Valley upsets Demarest, they have a solid chance of securing their first playoff berth since 2010.

Valley also needs one of these other scenarios to play out:

  • Roxbury (6-1) to defeat Randolph (5-2) on Friday night
  • Weequahic-Newark (2-5) to upset Nutley (5-2) on Saturday.

If Valley beats Demarest, but doesn’t get help from Roxbury or Weequahic, there’s a still a minute chance that Valley they can get into the playoffs.

Valley could be without leading rusher/leading tackler Mark DeLuise, who suffered a high ankle sprain against Lakeland last week. Head Coach Roger Kotlarz says the DeLuise’s return is “questionable,” but is still confident about the game

“It’s Week 8. There are a lot of teams that have nothing to play for now,” Kotlarz said. “We have the opportunity to play for a playoff spot. I’m really looking forward to Friday night because it’s going to be a playoff atmosphere. Demarest is very good. It’s going to be a close game.”
