The the first ever Wayne Valley 7-on-7 Tournament was a "success" according to head coach Roger Kotlarz.

"We had a lot of teams participating (12) and everything went smoothly," the coach said. "Was is a perfect day for us as a team? No. We have a lot to work on. But overall I was pleased with our performance. We are where we should be in July and we are definitely on course. At this point in time, I would say our offense is ahead of our defense, but that is not surprising. The offense we are introducing is somewhat similar to the offense they've run in the past. The defense is completely different, so there's more of a learning curve."

Participants included Bergen Catholic, DePaul, Pompton Lakes, Morris Hills, Elmwood Park, Passaic Valley, Clifton, Mahwah, Becton, Palisades Park/Leonia, and Westwood. In pool play, Valley defeated Passaic Valley and Morris Hills, but narrowly lost to DePaul and Bergen Catholic. They lost to Elmwood Park and Rutgers-bound quarterback Mike Dare in the playoffs. The show may have been stolen by the Wayne Valley Junior Varsity, which defeated the Bergen Catholic varsity by a comfortable margin.

Kotlarz labeled the quarterback-play of senior Mike Scaglione, junior Nick Goodwin and sophomore Grant Ferrauilo "real strong." More than 20 receivers (Varsity and JV) caught passes, with seniors Mark DeLuise (above vs. DePaul) and Andrew Popodics leading the way. DeLuise and junior Vinny Tedesco led the team in tackles. Junior Will Kearney had a game saving interception against Morris Hills. Sophomore Joe Namendorf had a key interception against Bergen Catholic's SEC bound quarterback Jarrett Guarantano.

Two Valley teams finished second and third respectively in the Strongman Competition. Junior Tyler Andreas, junior Tyler Burchell, junior Nick Fakhoury, sophomore Joey Monsen, and sophomore Jacob Tareky comprised the second place team. Senior Mike Chak, senior Dan Damato, junior John Duncan, junior PJ Chak, and sophomore Jake Pluta comprised the third place team.
