Softball: DePaul Coach’s honest mistake leads to costly consequences

Like so many professional baseball fans, DePaul softball coach Sue Parler was sorry to see how Major League baseball umpire Jim Joyce robbed Detroit pitcher Armando Galarraga of a perfect game with a blown call at first base last week. Since then, the merits of the human element of baseball have been bandied about far and wide.

"They didn’t reverse the call," Parler said. "Unfortunately, that’s part of the game."

Parler felt for Galarraga, but also felt for Joyce. After all, by her own admission, she recently "made a mistake" of her own. Her mistake resulted in an unfortunate consequence for her own star pitcher, Chelsea Batelli. Read More

Girls Track: Wayne Valley's Alana Pantale win State title

A week following a disappointing Group 3 meet where she was the favorite to win the discus but didn’t place, Pantale redeemed herself in the shot put at the State Meet of Champions at Just Field on Thursday. With a throw of 43 feet, 1/4 inch, she ends up the State champion in what isn’t even considered her best event. Read More
