Paterson Eastside's junior point guard Nhazir Smith has averaged 18.3 points per game this season. The three-year starter has led Eastside to three straight Passaic County Championships. Smith missed last week's Wayne Hills game and last week Newark East Side game, according to VarsityAces, due to undisclosed personal reasons. Paterson Eastside lost both games.
Smith's return this week, according to VarsityAces, makes Paterson Eastside the Passaic County Tournament favorites. But it did not look that way Thursday, as Wayne Valley (10-2) held Smith to just 11 points enroute to an impressive 58-51 win.
Senior Nick Goodwin led Valley with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Nick Giuliano added 16 points, 6 boards, 4 assists and 3 steals. Junior Elijah Beard had 10 rebounds and 8 points. Senior Alex Kokos had 7 points, 5 assists and 3 steals.
