Wayne Valley (No. 3, 15-6) defeated Passaic Tech (No. 6) to advance to the Passaic County Tournament for the fifth time under the direction of head coach Joe Leicht (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2015), but for the first time since 2011. Nick Goodwin led the way with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Kyle Greve added 23 points. Andrew Popadics added 13 points and 8 boards. Alex Kokos had 12 assists and 8 points. Nick Giuliano had 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
Valley will now play at Kennedy (No. 2) in the semifinals Saturday. The other semifinal game pits Eastside (No. 1) vs. West Milford (No. 4). If Valley defeats Kennedy, they will advance to the championship for the second time in school history. They previously lost in the final game to DePaul in 2007. The championship game, as always, will be played at Wayne Valley, the predetermined neutral site.
"One of our goals every year is to get back to Wayne Valley for the championship," Leicht said. "We're excited that it's within our grasp. We have been this far before, but it's been a while. We've messed it up the last few times."
