Football: Kotlarz has a rally going on at Wayne Valley
Source: The Wayne Today
When Roger Kotlarz first joined the high school football coaching ranks as an assistant at Elmwood Park in the mid-1990s, he set a lofty goal for himself. He wanted to eventually lead "the best public school football program in the state in every way, both on and off the field."
Kotlarz, who steadily moved up in the North Jersey coaching ranks, eventually went on to assistant coaching jobs at Rutherford and at Ramapo. Next, he became the head coach at Becton Regional (2008 to 2011), then Dover (2012-2013), and ultimately Wayne Valley. Through it all, e never waivered from his aspiration.
"That's not a realistic goal at almost every school in the state," Kotlarz said. "But it is a realistic goal at Wayne Valley.

Section I, Group IV State Baseball Tournament, First Round: Bergen Tech 3, Wayne Valley 2
(Joe Pascucci making a play at first.)
The 2014 baseball season will go down as a memorable one for Wayne Valley, but not because of its impressive 15-8 record. By virtue of that record, Valley earned the No. 1 seed in the Section I, Group IV State playoffs. Unfortunately for Valley, the impressive record and high seed will go down as a footnote to two upset post season losses.
Two weeks ago, Valley (No. 6) was upset by Eastside (No. 11) in the first round of the Passaic County Tournament. This past week, Valley (No. 1) was shocked by Bergen Tech (No. 16, 9-14) in the first round of the Section I, Group IV playoffs. It was Bergen Tech’s first-ever State Tournament win. Mike Elia got the start for Wayne Valley and took the loss, going five innings allowing three unearned runs on five hits, walking three and striking out six. Tyler Blumenstyk had an RBI for Wayne Valley.
