Boys Basketball: Section I, Group IV Semifinals: Eastside 47, Wayne Valley 38

Kyle Greve led Wayne Valley (No. 5, 16-11) with 22 points in this season-ending loss. Liam Connors (pictured above) had 11 points. It was Valley's fifth appearance in the semifinals in 10 years and Valley's ninth winning record in the last 10 years.

Nationally ranked Eastside (No. 1, 26-1) will play Passaic Tech for the title (No. 6) Tuesday. The teams only loss came in January to Newark East Side. Paterson Eastside's Quency Jones, a 6-foot-5 wingman, led the way with 17 points. Asem Johnson, who is averaging 17 points per game, was held to just 8 by Wayne Valley. The 6-foot-7 Shakur Juiston had 8 points and 8 boards.

Both coaches credited the others defense with the low score.

"We played hard, but their 2-2-1 and 1-2-2 zones were effective and we just couldn't hit shots over that first half period (11.5 minutes) when they piled up that big lead," said Joe Leicht, the Valley head coach.

Added Eastside coach Juan Griles, "Their (diamond-and-one) defense did give us some problems. We needed game like that to get used to different strategies. A test like that was important for us to pass. We did a good job at maintaining our poise."
