Girls Basketball: Wayne Valley 54, Passaic 16

Alicia Hester and Shayna Ocello scored 10 points apiece to lead Wayne Valley to its 20th win of the season (20-3). Sam Vogel added nine points for Wayne Valley. Khadijah Malloy led Passaic with 13 points.

Boys Basketball: Wayne Valley 82, Passaic 71

Liam Connors erupted for 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists as Valley (14-10) continued to surge. Jordan Walode added 18 points, 8 boards, and 8 assists.  Kyle Greve had 16 points and 4 rebounds. Andrew Popadics had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Nick Giuliano had 10 assists and Adam Brody had 5 boards.

Football: Roger Kotlarz Named Wayne Valley Head Coach


It’s official! As first reported by the Wayne Today Tuesday morning, longtime Bergen County and Morris County football coach Roger Kotlarz will be the next Wayne Valley football coach. He was formally voted in tonight by the Wayne Board of Education. The nine member BOE voted for Kotlarz unanimously.

Boys Basketball: Wayne Valley 59, Kennedy 57


Kennedy will be playing Eastside for the Passaic County Championship on Saturday at Wayne Valley. They got to test out the court Tuesday with a game against Wayne Valley. It didn't go so well, as Valley (13-10) stunned the state-power, 59-57. Liam Connors eclipsed the 25-point mark for the third straight game, this time netting 26 points. Nick Giuliano had 8 points and 4 assists. Nick Goodwin added 6 points and 5 rebounds, including a key basket and key rebound late in the game. Andrew Popadics (pictured above) had a team high 7 boards. Jonathan Schwarz had 5 rebounds. Jordan Walode had 6 assists and Kyle Greve had 6 points.

Girls Basketball:Wayne Valley 54, Kennedy 33

Keri Wieczerzak scored 22 points to lead Wayne Valley to a 54-33 victory over Paterson Kennedy at Paterson. Wayne Valley extended its four-point first quarter lead with a 20-11 showing in the second period. Shayna Ocello scored eight points for Wayne Valley. Jen Eitel added 6 points. Football: Kotlarz expected to be nominated for Wayne Valley head coaching job


The Wayne Today has learned that Roger Kotlarz’s name is expected to be presented at the next Wayne Township Board of Education meeting for approval as the new head football coach at Wayne Valley High School. The board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is set for this Thursday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Basketball: Wayne Valley 40, Pascack Hills 29

Jen Eitel scored 10 points to lead Wayne Valley over Pascack Hills, 40-29, in Wayne. Keri Wieczerzak added eight points for Wayne Valley. Kayla Strick led Pascack Hills with nine points, while Briana Musco finished with eight points.

Passaic County Girls Basketball Semifinals: Passaic Tech 39, Wayne Valley 28

Valley (17-3) suffered defeat for just the third time this season when they fell to Passaic Tech in the semifinals of the Passaic County Tournament. Sam Vogel led Valley with 8 points. Jen Eitel added 6. Alicia Hester and Taylor DeStefano scored 5 points apiece. Kierona Morton finished with 18 points and Tamira Easterling added 11 to lead Passaic Tech.

Girls Basketball: Wayne Valley Steaming Into PCT Semifinals

Wayne Valley made short work out of it's two regular season opponents this week in tune-ups for tomorrow's Passaic County Tournament semifinal game with Passaic Tech. Alicia Hester had 11 points to lead Wayne Valley to a 38-18 victory over Holy Angels in Demarest. Holy Angels led 12-10 at halftime, but Wayne Valley outscored them 28-6 in the second half. Taylor DeStefano and Shayna Ocello both scored six points for Wayne Valley. Kelly Wieczerzak finished with 11 points in Wayne Valley's 47-19 triumph over Bergen Tech in Paramus. Taylor DeStefano and Keri Wieczerzak each scored eight points for Wayne Valley.

Boys Basketball: Kennedy 68, Wayne Hills 54

Scott Wills led Hills (12-8) with 16 points. Kyle Hogan added 9. Alphonso Gee led Kennedy with 22 points. Hills will honor it's seniors tonight when they host Passaic at 7 p.m.

Liam Connors had 12 points and Nick Giuliano had 10, but Valley (No. 8, 10-10) still lost to top-seeded and nationally ranked Eastside. Kyle Greve added 9 points. Takaris Seales had 6. Connors and Adam Brody had 4 rebounds apiece. Freshman points guard Nhazir Smith scored 14 for Eastside. Junior Aaryn Abrams added 13 points and junior Maquel Sheffield contributed 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Wrestling: DePaul makes a statement; Wayne Valley writes history

For the fifth-straight year, top-seeded DePaul (12-6) staked claim to the Non-Public North B State wrestling title after making short work of No. 3 Pingry this morning, 73-6 in the championship round of a match that took less than an hour to finish.

Wayne Valley (14-3) continued its run down First Street this afternoon, defeating top-seed Paramus, 36-29 in the North 1, Group 3 finals in Paramus for the school's first-ever State sectional title.

Passaic County Tournament Girls Quarterfinals: Wayne Valley 47, West Milford 31

Taylor DeStefano had 11 points and Alicia Hester had 10, as Wayne Valley (No. 3, 15-2) beat West Milford (No. 6) in the Passaic County quarterfinals. Shayna Ocello and Sam Vogel added 7 points apiece. Valley will play Passaic Tech (No. 2) next Saturday in the semifinals at Passaic Tech.

It's come down to crunch time for the Wayne Hills boys' basketball team. Kevin Grimes' squad captured the Big North Independence Conference title last night when they defeated West Milford and Passaic Valley lost to Fair Lawn.

Girls Basketball: Wayne Valley 45, Lakeland 18

Kelly Wieczerzak, Shayna Ocello and Shayna Ocello scored eight points apiece to lead Wayne Valley to a 45-18 victory over Lakeland at Lakeland. The win clinched the conference title for Valley. Allie Yoffee scored seven points for Lakeland

Passaic County Boys Basketball Tournament: Wayne Valley 61, Passaic Tech 59


Sophomore Nick Giuliano (pictured above) hit a three point shot with 8 seconds left to lift Valley (No. 8, 8-9) past Passaic Tech (No. 9) in the first round of the Passaic County Tournament.  Liam Connors had a team high 14 points. Takaris Seales had 12 points, while Kyle Greve had 11. Giuliano finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Nick Goodwin had 7 rebounds, while Jordan Walode had 5.

Passaic County Boys Basketball Tournament: Wayne Hills 74, Lakeland 60

Scott Wills' 21 points lifted Wayne Hills (No. 5, 11-8) to a 64-50 victory over Lakeland (No. 12) in the first round of the Passaic County Tournament in Wayne. Dorian Hodge had 14 points and Joey Kenny added nine points for Wayne Hills, which used a 22-11 fourth quarter to pull away. Tristen Downey led Lakeland with 12 points.

Brooke Adamchak led Hills (No. 7) past Passaic Valley (No. 10) with 17 points. Shelby Szott added 14 points. Jasmine Solomon and Taylor Rodriguez had 10 and 9 points respectively.

Ice Hockey: Wayne Hills 10, Wayne Valley 0

Danny Reidel collected two goals and two assists and Wayne Hills received goals from nine different skaters en route to a 10-0 win over Wayne Valley at the Ice Vault in Wayne. Peter Beckwermert, Zach Brogna, Max Chazen, Sean Coleman, Michael Crincoli, Grant Kelly, Garrett Mirman and Bryant O'Donohue also scored for Wayne Hills, which received a combined 17 saves from Peter Petrozza and Andrew Mordkoff. Eric Birnberg and Stephen Sferruzza combined to make 57 saves for Wayne Valley.
