JP Flynn Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament Championship: Wayne Valley 47, Mendham 43

Liam Connors had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Wayne Valley (3-1) past Mendham for the JP Flynn Holiday Tournament championship. Kyle Greve added 12 point, while Nick Guiliano accounted for 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Nick Goodwin had 4 assists.

"We didn't start the season off very well," head coach Joe Leicht said in reference to an opening night 22 point loss to West Milford. "But we were fortunate the way the schedule broke. We didn't have another game for six days. That gave us a lot of time to get things right. To come down here (Delbarton/Morris County) and to beat two outstanding teams like Delbarton and Mendham says a lot."

Passaic-Bergen Girls Basketball Showcase: Wayne Valley 75, Englewood 44

Keri Wieczerzak scored 20 points as Wayne Valley defeated Engledwood, 75-44, in the round robin Passaic/Bergen Showcase at Passaic Valley. Alicia Hester finished with 14 points for Wayne Valley, which opened the game.25-10 first quarter. Sam Vogel added 13 points.

Jingle Bells Boys Basketball Jubillee, Second Round: DePaul 59, Passaic 51

Juwan Carter erupted for 27 points to lead DePaul (1-2).  Isiah Robinson added 14 points, while Devon Shuster tacked on 8. Jordan Thomas chipped in with 6 points. DePaul lost in the first round to Gil St. Bernard.

J.P. Flynn Memorial Tournament Boys Basketball Semifinals: Wayne Valley 59, Delbarton 39

Kyle Greve (pictured above) led all scorers with 17 points as Wayne Valley (2-1) defeated Delbarton, 59-39, in the semifinals of the J.P. Flynn Memorial Tournament in Morristown. Liam Connors added 16 points. Nick Giuliano had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Andrew Popadics had a team-high 11 rebounds and also had 4 steals. Jonathan Schwarz had 7 boards and 5 assists. Greve had 7 rebounds as well. Takaris Seales added 7 points. Valley will take on Mendham in the tournament final on Sunday night at 7 p.m. at Delbarton.

Passaic-Bergen Girls Basketball Showcase: Wayne Valley 41, Bergenfield 25

Kelly and Keri Wieczerzak each scored 10 for Wayne Valley.  Nicole Henderson, Sami Torres and Haleigh Martin all scored six points for Bergenfield. Jen Eitel and Sam Vogel added 7 and 5 points respectively.

Walkill Valley Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament, First Round: High Point 56, Wayne Hills 53

Scott Wills scored 23 for Wayne Hills (1-2).

JP Flynn Holiday Tournament, First Round: Wayne Valley 69. Morris Hills 41

Liam Connors scored 18 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and had 4 steals as Valley (1-1) beat Morris Hills in the JP Flynn Holiday Tournament at Delbarton. Nick Guiliano added 18 points and 7 assists. Kyle Greve contributed 15 points. Andrew Popadics and Jonathan Schwarz had 5 boards apiece. Jordan Walode had 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Valley will now play Delbarton in the semifinals at Delbarton Friday night at 7 p.m.

Boys Basketball: Wayne Hills 51, Fair Lawn 49, OT

David Torres scored 14 points as Wayne Hills won the first game of the head coach Kevin Grimes era. Joey Kenny and Martin Kilroy chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.Scott Wills added 7 points.

Boys Basketball: Bergen Catholic 67, DePaul 50

Juwuan Carter led DePaul with 19 points. Devon Shuster and Debon Bright chipped in with 8 points. Isiah Robinson added 7 points. Nadi Beciri led Bergen Catholic to this opening day win with 22 points. Matej Jurcevic added 17 points.

Boys Basketball: West Milford 76, Wayne Valley 54


Sophomore Nick Giuliano led Wayne Valley with 13 points. Liam Connors and Jordan Walode had 8 points and 6 rebounds each. Adam Brody added 8 points. Giuliano and Walode had 5 and 4 assists respectively. Tom Pegel scored 13 points, leading five players in double figures, to propel West Milford to this opening night win. Luke Basket and Sean Hammond, as well as junior Pat Burke, each scored 12 points and Mike Otero had 11 to pace West Milford.

Ice Hockey: Wayne Hills 9, Wayne Valley 4

Danny Reidel picked up two goals and two assists to lead Wayne Hills over Wayne Valley, 9-4, at the Ice Vault in Wayne.Zachary Brogna collected two goals and an assist and Peter Beckwermert added a goal and two assists to the victory.Max Schwartz scored three goals and assisted on the other goal for Wayne Valley.

While this year's roster will be made up of many inter-changeable parts, there is one player who is sure to be on the court almost constantly. Senior forward Liam Connors, who averaged a team-high 16.6 points per game last year and pulled down 6.6 rebounds, is one of seven returning regulars.
