DePaul (21-4) bounced back from a 10-turnover first quarter and a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win — scoring 30 in the final period to grab the win. Juwuan Carter scored 21 points to lead the team, while Sanders Green had 15 points.

Section I, Group IV Boys Basketball State Playoffs, First Round: Randolph 78, Wayne Valley 65

Wayne Valley (18-9) suffered a season ending loss to Randolph in the State Playoffs. Jordan Walode led Valley with 17 points and 5 assists. Liam Connors had 13 points and 6 boards. Nick Guiliano had 12 points. Andrew Keane contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Passaic County Tournament Boys Basketball Final: DePaul 59, Eastside 56

When a DePaul assistant asked Ryan Hagen in the fourth quarter why freshman guard Jordan Thomas was still on the court in such a big spot, the first-year head coach simply didn't respond.
Instead of finishing the game seated on the bench, Thomas stayed in and would leave the court sitting on the shoulders of his teammates. Thomas received the hero's exit after his half-court shot at the buzzer gave second-seeded DePaul a stunning 59-56 overtime victory over top-seeded Paterson Eastside, ranked No. 11 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, in the Passaic County Tournament final yesterday at Wayne Valley.

Passaic County Girls Basketball Championship: DePaul 59, Passaic Tech 39

Jordan Thomas made the shot to win the Passaic County boys basketball title for DePaul. He should get an assist for the Spartans' girls championship, too. With the Wayne Valley gym still humming after Thomas' miracle heave in the first game, the Spartans girls team took the floor and raced out to a big lead before putting down Passaic Tech, 59-39.

Basketball: Wayne's Corsetto headed to Hall of Fame

Longtime Wayne resident and retired area basketball coach Rich Corsetto has been nominated for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Basketball Hall of Fame. He will be inducted into the prestigious shrine on March 13 at Sullivan County Community College, N.Y. - site of this year's National Junior College Tournament.

Boys Basketball: Wayne Valley 48, Passaic 37

Liam Connors led his team with 17 points with seven rebounds and Josh Rigoglioso finished with 11 rebounds, 10 assists and nine points. Andrew Keane had 10 rebounds. Jordan Walode had 7 points and 5 boards. Passaic was led by Rahsaan Johnson, who had a game-high 19 points.

Passaic County Tournament Boys Basketball Semifinals: DePaul 68, Kennedy 62



Josh Marquez tallied 19 points as DePaul (19-4) beat Kennedy to advance to the Passaic County Tournament Championship game. They will take on Eastside (No. 1) in the final for the second year in row. Eastside defeated DePaul in the final last year. DePaul won the championship in 2003 and 2007. Juwan Carter added 18 points for DePaul. Sanders Green (pictured above) added 16 points.

Girls basketball: DePaul ousts Eastside from Passaic tournament

After a tough start to the season thanks to a brutal schedule, third-seeded DePaul has fought all the way back and is now on the brink of a Passaic County championship after knocking off No. 2 Eastside, 47-43, in the semifinals Saturday at Passaic Tech.

"I always knew we’d end up winning at the end of the season," DePaul senior forward Jade Walker said. "I always knew we were fighters. We didn’t let up and we never hung our heads."

Boys Basketball: Wayne Valley 53, Kennedy 43

Junior Jordan Walode led Valley (15-7) past Kennedy in a regular season clash with 17 points. Liam Connors and Adam Brody, also juniors, had 13 and 12 points respectively. Senior Andrew Keane tore down 17 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Brody added 7 boards. Josh Rigoglioso had 10 assists. Connors had 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Boys Basketball: Passaic County Tournament Quarterfinals: Kennedy 72, Wayne Valley 59


Josh Rigogoliso had 12 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, but Wayne Valley (No. 6) still lost to Kennedy (No. 3). Andrew Keane added 10 points and 9 rebounds. Jordan Walode added 12 points. Kyle Greve had 8 points and 4 boards. Gary Choka had 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Liam Connors had 7 rebounds.

Boys Basketball: Passaic County Quarterfinals: DePaul 58, Passaic Valley 48

Sanders Green scored 20 points as second-seeded DePaul held on to defeat seventh-seeded Passaic Valley, 58-48, in the quarterfinals of the Passaic County Tournament in Wayne. Josh Marquez added 15 points and Devon Shuster had nine points for DePaul, which hit 10-of-13 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to advance. Stefan Minic poured in a game-high 23 points for seventh-seeded Passaic Valley, which cut the lead down to three points early in the fourth. Zach Damiano added nine points.

Football: Wayne's World: Demikoff named Wayne Hills head coach

It's official. As first reported by the Wayne Today on Sunday afternoon, long-time Wayne Hills High School assistant football coach Wayne Demikoff was formally voted in tonight by the Wayne Board of Education to be the Patriots new head coach.

Demikoff immediately takes over for veteran coach Chris Olsen, who officially retired at the end of the fall season after 26 years at Wayne Hills. He inherits a successful public school program that has won eight state titles since 2002 and has sent numerous athletes on to the college and professional level over the years. H.S. boys basketball: Juwuan Carter, Josh Marquez key DePaul's rally past Wayne Valley

For three quarters Tuesday night, Wayne Valley played like a team determined to show just how deep it can proceed in the Passaic County boys basketball tournament. The Indians, who had won nine straight entering their Big North game against DePaul, played crisp, efficient offense and sound defense, well enough to take a double-digit lead into the fourth quarter. Football: Demikoff expected to be nominated as new Wayne Hills head football coach

The Wayne TODAY has learned that Wayne Demikoff's name is expected to be presented at the next Wayne Township Board of Education meeting for approval as the new head football coach at Wayne Hills High School. Passaic County Boys Basketball Tournament, First Round: DePaul 79, Eastern Christian 45

Sanders Green scored 15 points as second-seeded DePaul defeated 15th-seeded Eastern Christian, 79-45, in the first round of the Passaic County Tournament in Wayne. Tyler Hoskins hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for DePaul, which raced to a 30-5 first quarter lead. Josh Marquez had 12 points and Donte Wise added 10 points. Matt Van Grouw connected on five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points for Eastern Christian. DePaul will host Passaic Valley (No. 7) in the quarterfinals Saturday at Kennedy

The Passaic Valley boys basketball team is starting to resemble the squad coach Rob Carcich thought it could become this season. The seventh-seeded Hornets won their third straight game Saturday.
