Boys Basketball: Wayne Valley catching fire heading into County tournament

Source: The Wayne Today

Opponents near and far in North Jersey may have had visions of beating up on the Wayne Valley boys' basketball team this year. The Indians, which have never turned in a losing season in head coach Joe Leicht's nine years on Valley Road, dominated its way to a 21-6 season a year ago.

In the 2012-13 season, it stood to reason, Wayne Valley would take a significant step backwards. After all, the Indians lost six valuable contributors off last year's roster, including four starters to graduation. It's rarely a given, meanwhile, that the next wave of underclassmen will step in and perform just like last year's upperclassmen. But most of Wayne Valleys' opponents have faced a cold and harsh reality - the Indians haven't missed a beat since last season. In and around Wayne Hills, there is sentiment to keep the job in-house and promote Patriots long-time defensive coordinator Wayne Demikoff. He has been on the Patriots’ staff for 14 years, is already on record as saying he would apply.
